Devices, Materials, and Characterization
We provide the underpinning science and technology for the key component on which MIRTHE+ is based, which is the QC laser, to explore novel approaches of device design and receiver miniaturization, and to explore new materials and advanced materials characterization techniques for innovation. These three foci ensure that MIRTHE’s Sensor Systems and Sensor Applications and Testbeds are based on the most innovative and highest performance technology.
Barriers driving the research:
* Limited power efficiency, peak power and spectral range of the QC lasers
* Lack of immaturity of miniature mid-IR optical components
* Lack of room temperature, long wavelength, sensitive detectors
