MIRTHE+ partners with YSAP to host a successful outreach event at Princeton University
On April 28th, high school students (grades 9 through 12) converged on Princeton’s campus for the 2018 MIRTHE+/YSAP Young Scholar’s Day. YSAP’s mission is to inspire and encourage high schools from underrepresented groups to pursue fields of studies and careers in STEM fields. The day long program included a panel discussion led by the members of the First‐Generation Low Income (FLI) group at Princeton, who shared their experience from applying to college and their first-year experience about college life. The students also visited several laboratories where they explored different experimental set ups in the area of optics, photonics and energy research. The parents who accompanied the students attended presentations by representatives from Princeton’s Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid offices on “getting in college” and “paying for college”. The teachers and mentors who attended participated in a workshop designed to showcase techniques to make teaching science fun. Click for a detailed agenda.
We would like to thank the Princeton University School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment for supporting this successful event.
